GOOD ESSAY TO GREAT ESSAY

My client, a PhD scientist here in Carrboro, is highly skilled and ambitious. And, she was intent on getting into UNC’s MBA program, so she hired me to edit her two application essays. Her drafts were a solid start, but she’s more experienced writing science journal articles than essays like this, which must balance a professional tone with personal experiences and insights.

30 minutes was all I needed to offer structural revisions (developmental edits) and copy editing to increase clarity, coherence, and personality, which, while never appropriate for science writing, is a must for essays like these. My client, fluent in both Mandarin and English, also needed a wee bit of proofreading.

These fast jobs scratch my itch. Super satisfying. Of course, she got into the program on her own, but her essays enhanced her materials instead of distracting the admission panel. She now says she rereads them and considers them her personal vision statement, returning to them to remind herself why she’s working so damn hard.
